“One of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between Man and Nature shall not be broken.” – Leo Tolstoy
At GUI, natural, soil-based and organic farming is part and parcel of our efforts in building up this Kampung Kampus. Over the years, many pairs of hands have worked on the soil, laboured and appreciated the connections it has brought about between us and our food, as well as the people caring for it.
Be it through our farming experiences or volunteering, come together to learn how to take care of our land and be grateful for the food it provides.
After my first time at Kampung Kampus with my kids, I knew it wasn’t going to be my last time there. Each time we went, we were touched by the hospitality of all at GUI and especially our always-friendly guide, Mei, whom my kids very fondly remember. Whenever I told them we were heading for the farm, they will remind me that they were paying a visit to ‘Mei’s farm’!
Our last visit to harvest sweet potatoes was an amazing experience. I believe my kids got to learn firsthand what it means to not give up (it was a lot of sweat and brute strength to get a potato out from the ground!) and for everyone (young and old) to come together amiably to complete the goal jointly. The sight of all the kids weighing potatoes together finally, that day, was quite a sight indeed!
